Title: Underwriting Specialist
Reports to: VP of Underwriting
Position Summary: The underwriting department at Prestige helps to support both new business as well as renewal business on our master health plans. The underwriting team works with our outside consultants to assess risk and determine the pricing for our new business opportunities for our master health plans and then helps to communicate that pricing and risk profile to our sales team. The department also reviews the performance of the Prestige clients on master health plans to monitor ongoing claims and risk to the health plan. This ongoing review allows us to best prepare for the annual renewal of our health plans and understand what groups may be underfunded or needing to have additional rate actions to ensure proper premium adequacy.
The underwriting specialist is a key member of the underwriting team in helping coordinate and evaluate data to set pricing, secure missing information, identify inconsistencies in data, enter data into underwriting tools and manage output. This role works on both new and existing clients in assessing risk, identifying premium shortfalls, and working with cross functional teams to communicate findings.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess risk through Gradient AI and PEO Velocity RAPT tool
- Enter data into RAPT for Post Enrollment Audit and evaluate census at 30/60/90 day intervals.
- Attend monthly performance calls to review carrier/group performance
- Work with sales team to ensure accuracy of new business submissions
- Quality review rate sheets and plan designs and adjust as needed for new business sales
- Provide input into RAPT for carrier change requests
- Assists UW team with escalated issues.
- Attends and participates in meetings with management/ leadership.
- Respond promptly to internal and external requests and escalations.
- Communicates to management when problems are discovered that affect daily processes. Identifies operations gaps and works with manager and team for resolution.
- Identifies new and efficient ways to do business and proposes to upper management/ leadership.
- Provides training of department staff members as needed.

- Maintains an ongoing attitude of continuous improvement of processes within the department.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in underwriting
- Strong leadership skills High attention to detail.
- Strong business communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn new processes.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Advanced skillset in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to manage quote reviews and escalations.
- Ability to act as underwriting sales liaison.
- Manage reporting and team projects.
